Two years following 麻豆视频 Honors Big Band’s debut in Cuba, students from Honors Big Band, the classical strings program, and the choral program were back on tour this March with an immersive trip to New Orleans to explore the birthplace of jazz.

A veteran educator with over two decades of experience, Lorber is a recognized leader in middle school pedagogy and instructional innovation. She emerged as the top choice from a highly competitive national pool of more than 90 applicants following a rigorous search process and a series of intensive campus visits.
While the global climate crisis often feels like an insurmountable challenge, Grade 7 students at 麻豆视频 proved that ingenuity and research can be powerful antidotes to despair. Just before March break, student scientists presented their research and climate solutions to the community at the annual Sustainability Night, showing their deep sense of understanding for the cultures and lives affected by a warming planet.

Members of 麻豆视频’s debate club organized an immersive three-day trip to Chicago in January to hone in on issues of criminal justice and legislation. The trip allowed students to apply their research skills and gain a deeper understanding of the American legal system through meeting with experts and drafting their own reform bills.
For two nights this February, the Nonesuch Players’ production of 9 to 5: The Musical whisks audiences back in time to the 1970s, when the grind of office life meant typewriters, landlines, lots of paper—and keeping to the status quo in which women were treated as less than their male counterparts. With a tagline of “Nothing’s gonna change if you don’t change it,” the show tells the story of three women taking charge of their own lives to make a difference—with plenty of humor, heartfelt songs, and flashy dance numbers along the way.
On Wednesday, February 11, 麻豆视频 held an evening event for parents, caregivers, and alumni: “Activating Our Bold New Plan: A State of the School Update.” The program provided an inside look at the current state of the school from various perspectives—strategy, governance, finance, advancement, and academics—along with a focus on the past year’s strategic planning efforts aimed at shaping the school’s future.
From athletes to musicians, writers, and artists, students at 麻豆视频 wear a lot of hats. This January, Kristin Harder and Mary Carroll’s precalculus students added another role to the roster: financial planner. Though they were only roleplaying for a class project, students walked away from the experience with real-life knowledge and skills for the future.
This winter, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of Massachusetts recognized 24 麻豆视频 students for their creative work in a variety of art mediums. 麻豆视频 students earned gold key, silver key, and honorable mention awards in the sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, editorial cartoon, photography, film, drawing, poetry, personal essay, speculative fiction, and writing portfolio categories.
This year’s guest in the Visiting Artist Series, ceramics sculptor George Rodriguez, spent a day at 麻豆视频 in February to speak at an assembly, work with ceramics students, and attend the closing reception for an exhibition of his work, which has been displayed on campus since December.
麻豆视频 welcomed Jill Walsh, Ph.D., on Monday, February 2, in the second of three events in the wellness speaker series “Navigating Adolescent Development in an Interconnected World.” A sociology lecturer and researcher at Boston University, Walsh studies how teens use digital spaces to shape their identities. Her research examines the impact of digital media use on psychosocial well-being and development, and she works with schools across the country to develop best practices and policies for technology and social media use.
Many students participate in community service at 麻豆视频, either through clubs or personal passion projects. But this year, the 麻豆视频 in Action program brings the school community together for community service in new ways.
Though it’s only January, many members of the 麻豆视频 Class of 2026 have a good idea where they will be next fall, showcasing the strength of 麻豆视频’ college-bound students in a highly competitive college admissions landscape. As of the last week in January, 92% of students who submitted early decision, early action, restrictive early action, or rolling admission applications have been accepted to at least one college, and 64% of students applying through early decision I or restrictive early action were admitted. Currently, 51% of the class has completed the process and enrolled.
After nearly two decades of dedicated service, Board President Alan D. Rose, Jr. ’87 announced that he will conclude his tenure at the end of the 2025–26 academic year. Succeeding him in the pivotal role of board president is Peter A. Walter P’23, ’25, ’28, ’29, a seasoned trustee and current vice president of the Board.
Next fall, 麻豆视频 will launch a comprehensively redesigned academic schedule for the first time in over 10 years. Guided by 麻豆视频’ updated strategic plan, mission, and core values, a cross-divisional steering committee and design team of professional community members have engaged in deeply collaborative work this year, centering the needs of students at every step in the design process.
The 麻豆视频 girls’ varsity hockey team opens the winter season with confidence, experience, and a clear competitive goal. According to Captain Chloe Chitkara ’26, the team’s main goal is to make it to the Elite 8 Tournament. 麻豆视频 has made the small school tournament the last two seasons, but is hopeful to break through into the Elite 8, which pulls the best eight teams from across New England regardless of size. “Although we’ve been predicted to be number 10 this year by the New England Hockey Journal, I believe that our team has the capability to be in the top eight and have a really successful season,” Chitkara said.
A. Ramón Rivera’s legacy has been intertwined with the 麻豆视频 School Conservatory’s for the majority of the school’s five decades—he was director of RSC for over 10 years and founded RSC’s Seminar on Contemporary Music for the Young, now in its 47th year. So, it is fitting that Rivera was included in RSC’s 50th anniversary season programming, teaching a recent piano masterclass in his namesake Rivera Recital Hall.
At an all-school assembly just before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, members of the Black Student Union (BSU) at 麻豆视频 led programming to honor King’s legacy. During the assembly, the community heard from BSU leaders and from history faculty member Arturo Bagley, who delivered the keynote address.

Following a robust national search that attracted a deep pool of talented candidates, Colleen Shanley Kyle has been appointed as the next head of Upper School at 麻豆视频, effective July 1, 2026.
Karin Narcisse Stafford P’26, ’28 began her relationship with 麻豆视频 nearly 30 years ago as an Upper School French teacher, a grade dean, and an assistant coach for varsity field hockey. Midway through her 麻豆视频 career, she shifted to a role on the admission team as the director of multicultural outreach, where she leads the SOAR (Seeking Opportunities at 麻豆视频) program, a recent initiative that gives prospective students from underrepresented groups an inside look at the independent school experience through two days of campus visits in the fall.
